The Kid Daytona – Come Fly With Me (2009)

New York, NY – The Kid Daytona, born in Atlanta, GA to a set of Caribbean parents, grew up with a unique blend of cultural identities, which was only further expanded by his teenage years in The Bronx, NY. It was these formative years in New York’s northern borough that led The Kid Daytona to his current path as a musician — and the June 30th release of his full length studio album, Come Fly With Me.

The flight path leading to the release of Come Fly With Me has been a long one. The Kid Daytona attained early success when his group The Aces was signed to Atlantic Records in 2002. Though the group dismantled shortly thereafter, Daytona managed to establish himself in the eyes of legendary MC Busta Rhymes, who quickly enlisted the young artist for a role in Flipmode Squad. In addition to Busta Rhymes, Daytona has also been blessed with the guidance of Cipha Sounds (Hot 97 WQHT), who has helped create the dynamic artist that appears on Come Fly With Me. Daytona and Cipha started out by releasing A Tribe Called Fresh in 2008, which garnered the attention of major media outlets like The Fader. Daytona explains that, “the success of the Tribe tape helped me realize it was time to put an official album together. I want people to be able to hear my music, and this is best way for me to make that happen – by making it available, and doing it well.”

On Come Fly With Me, The Kid Daytona shares airspace with musical superstars such as Bun B (UGK), Kardinal Offishall, and seasoned newcomers such as Mickey Factz, Amanda Diva, Harlem’s Cash,Outasight, and more. Production credits for the album include 6th Sense, Double 0 (Kidz In The Hall), Cook Classics, Jet Audio, Ill Bomb, The Government, and Deputy.

Both Come Fly With Me and its single, “Contact” featuring Kardinal Offishall, will be distributed digitally by Community JUICE beginning Tuesday, June 30, 2009.

Grieving Fans Kill Themselves Over Michael Jackson! [via Radio The Rahim]

via Yahoo News [UK]

The man behind the world’s biggest online Michael Jackson fan club has said heartbroken followers of the star have committed suicide because of his death.

Gary Taylor, president and owner of MJJcommunity.com, said he understood the tragedies had mostly taken place outside of the UK but he believed one may have been British.

“I know there has been an increase, I now believe the figure is 12. I believe there may have been one Briton who has taken their life,” he said.

“It is a serious situation that these people are going through but Michael Jackson would never want this. He would want them to live.”

Jesse Jackson, a friend of the singer, has recorded a YouTube film on the site urging fans not to “self destruct”.

He said: “This is a time when hearts are heavy. There is great pain but great cause to celebrate Michael’s life.

“It made Michael happy saying ‘We Are The World’. Don’t self destruct.

“We fall down sometimes, we get back up. That’s the right thing to do. In Michael’s name let’s live together as brothers and sisters and not die apart as fools.”

MJJcommunity.com was formed 10 years ago by Mr Taylor, a London office manager, and has more than 14,000 online users and 30 staff worldwide.

He said the singer’s death had left his fans on the forum “in a surreal place”.

“They can’t accept it, they feel in some sort of different reality,” he said.

“I’m stunned that he’s dead. One minute he is coming here for concerts and the next he is gone.

“I think the funeral will be where the reality kicks in that he is gone and won’t be coming back, there will be a huge depression in the fan community when that happens.”

Thousands of Michael Jackson fans are expected to gather for a vigil on July 13 at the O2 Arena where the star was due to perform.

They will assemble at Canary Wharf from 1pm before moving on to the 02 from 6pm.

Song Of The Day: Nas – The World Is Yours

“The World Is Yours”
(feat. Pete Rock)

“It’s yours!” –> [T La Rock]

[Chorus: Nas, Pete Rock]

[PR] Whose world is this?
[Nas] The world is yours, the world is yours
[PR] It’s mine, it’s mine, it’s mine
Whose world is this?
“It’s yours!”
It’s mine, it’s mine, it’s mine
Whose world is this?
[Nas] The world is yours, the world is yours
[PR] It’s mine, it’s mine, it’s mine
Whose world is this?

I’m the young city bandit, hold myself down singlehanded
For murder raps, I kick my thoughts alone, get remanded
Born alone, die alone, no crew to keep my crown or throne

I’m deep by sound alone, caved inside in a thousand miles from home
I need a new nigga, for this black cloud to follow
Cause while it’s over me it’s too dark to see tomorrow

Trying to maintain, I flip, fill the clip to the tip
Picturin my peeps, now the income make my heartbeat skip
And I’m amped up, they locked the champ up, even my brain’s in handcuffs
Headed for Indiana stabbin women like the Phantom
The crew is lampin big Willie style
Check the chip toothed smile, plus I profile wild
Stash through the flock wools, burnin dollars to light my stove
Walk the blocks wit a bop, checkin Danes plus the games
people play, bust the problems of the world today

“It’s yours!”

Get Anything or Die Tryin! [Why Plan B Can Be Our Downfall] | Radio The Rahim

A long while ago, a great warrior faced a situation which made it necessary for him to make a decision which insured his success on the battlefield. He was about to send his armies against a powerful foe, whose men outnumbered his own. He loaded his soldiers into boats, sailed to the enemy’s country, unloaded soldiers and equipment, then gave the order to burn the ships that had carried them. Addressing his men before the first battle, he said, “You see the boats going up in smoke. That means that we cannot leave these shores alive unless we win! We now have no choice–we win–or we perish! They won.

Every person who wins in any undertaking must be willing to burn his ships and cut all sources of retreat.” – above excerpt from Think and Grow Rich [Napolean Hill]

I am in a deep state of thought.

It might be unnecessary…but actually reflection is never unnecessary. As long as my thoughts stay productive.

Allow me to produce.

So you have this story, and the purpose of me posting the above story, was to suggest this crazy idea to you all that it’s not always about having a Plan B.

50 cent summed the above philosophy, in his own way, with his phrase,”Get Rich or Die Tryin‘”

He had a goal — wealth, and he felt so adamant about it that he felt that if he did not attain it, then the only other option was death.

How many of you feel that way about something? About anything? It doesn’t have to be wealth.

How many of you are brave enough to want something, and be able to cut off all sources of retreat? I think everyone, especially those that are fear and are insecure about the future (which is reasonable, since we can’t predict it with any strong degree of accuracy) have a tendency to always keep a plan B, C, D, and sometimes E in mind.

I am not here to try to judge your philosophy, because for all i know, I am absolutely incorrect about mine. However, the story above, since the day I read it, has stuck with me for years, and will until ...i’m too old to remember it.

I’d rather, actually rather than give you my interpretation of this particular story, like to open up the floor to whoever happens to read this and care enough to share a comment on it.

I will engage in conversation with whoever that may be.

Can’t think of anything?

Have you ever went INTO a relationship holding onto a dude/chick on the side just in case the one you were with messes up?

What powerful foes are you up against?

Really, really, think about it.

We’ll wait ;)
